The ANDANTE project will investigate risk of cancer from exposure to low doses of neutrons. The project will combine the disciplines of radiation physics, radiobiology, and epidemiology to develop a risk model that will be tested in a prospective study on the incidence of second cancers following exposure to scattered neutrons following paediatric proton therapy.
The final project results are likely to make a major contribution to our understanding of the risks from low-dose exposure to neutrons, and how the risks vary with neutron energy and dose.
